Birthdays

According to the Bible it’s understood the Israelites kept excellent time however they never had birthday celebrations such as you do today. The only celebrations honored were those ordained by the Most High such as recorded in Leviticus 23. However there are several birthday references recorded in the Bible all of which the nations celebrated, proving such customs are rooted in paganism.

 Genesis 40: 20 “And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
[21] And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand:
[22] But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.”

Ecclesiates 7: 1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

2 Maccabees 6: 7 And in the day of the king’s birth every month they were brought by bitter constraint to eat of the sacrifices; and when the fast of Bacchus was kept, the Jews were compelled to go in procession to Bacchus, carrying ivy.
[8] Moreover there went out a decree to the neighbour cities of the heathen, by the suggestion of Ptolemee, against the Jews, that they should observe the same fashions (celebrate the kings birthday), and be partakers of their sacrifices:
[9] And whoso would not conform themselves to the manners of the Gentiles should be put to death.

Matthew 14: 6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
[7] Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
[8] And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.

The Bible is clear when it speaks about astrology, the observing of times;

Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
[11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
[12For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
[13] Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
[14] For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

Isaiah 47: 13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

From Eol, an “infant.” In Scotland, at least in the Lowlands, the Yule-cakes are also called Nur-cakes. Now in Chaldee Nour signifies “birth.” Therefore, Nurcakes are “birth-cakes.” The Scandinavian goddesses, called “norns,” who appointed children their destinies at their birth, evidently derived their name from the cognate Chaldee word “Nor,” a child. Far and wide, in the realms of Paganism, was this birth-day observed. This festival has been commonly believed to have had only an astronomical character, referring simply to the completion of the sun’s yearly course, and the commencement of a new cycle.
