High Holy Days
About God's High Holy Days
The Most High has given us ten yearly holidays, fifty two weekly Sabbaths and twelve New Moons to celebrate and have a good time in righteousness. Does our suffering give us an excuse to disregard God’s Holidays? NO! Let’s examine our forefather Tobit during the Assyrian captivity where he suffered much.
Tobit 2:1:“Now when I was come home again, and my wife Anna was restored unto me, with my son Tobias, in the feast of Pentecost, which is the holy feasts of the seven weeks, there was a good DINNER prepared me, in the which I sat down to eat.” Verse 2:“And when I saw abundance of meat, I said to my son, go and bring what poor man so ever thou shalt find out of our brethren, who is mindful of the Lord: and lo, I tarry for thee.”
Now let’s examine the Apostle Paul:
1 Corinthians 5:7: ”Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us:” Verse 8: ”Therefore let us keep the feast,…”
So as an example to us all, our fore parents never made excuses to disregard God’s Holidays even in harsh captivities in another land. They came together and had a dinner in honor and remembrance. These historical facts help us to understand that we must obey all God’s commandments in Christ. In the Apocrypha Ecclesiasticus 32:17: ”A sinful man will not be reproved, but findeth an excuse according to his will.”
Each Biblical holiday except the Sabbath is based on the new moon, each in their own season. During the time of the Apostles the religious Jews condemned the Gentile Israelites that believed in Christ for not keeping the holidays according to the strictness of the Levitical priesthood in terms of sacrificing etc. The ordinances of the Levitical priesthood were a shadow of things to come because the body is now of Christ (Colossians 2:16-17). Most of our people ask themselves; “what makes these Holidays any different from any other day? “
Ecclesiasticus 33:7: ”Why doth one day excel another, when as all the light of every day in the year is of the sun?“ Verse 8: ”By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished: and he altered seasons and feasts.” Verse 9: ”Some of them hath he made high days, and hallowed them, and some of them hath he made ordinary days.”
These days are special to the Heavenly Father who distinguished them from any ordinary day. In the kingdom of heaven they shall be kept strict. Zechariah 14:16: ”And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.” After the destruction that will come upon this earth those who are preserved are going to come up to worship for the feast of tabernacles and if any refuse to keep the feast they will be punished. Zechariah 14:17: ”And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.” Verse 18: ”And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.” Verse 19: ”This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.”
Today however Israel is scattered and suffer under various conditions abiding under the mercy of Christ. Hebrews 4:16: ”Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in TIME OF NEED.” We give all praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ who died for us and removed the curse of the law from us, read Galatians 3:13. Share the joy of celebrating holidays ordained by The Most High and our fore parents.
